“A Mother’s Blessing” by Fahmi DNR

 

This artwork was created as a form of respect and dedication to the figure of a mother—someone whose prayers are often unheard, yet quietly become the greatest strength in our lives. I titled this piece “A Mother’s Blessing” because I believe that a mother’s prayers and blessings carry an invisible power, one that is deeply felt in every step of a child’s life.

In this painting, I portray three main figures: a mother depicted with white hair and gentle wrinkles that reflect age and wisdom, and a couple—a child and their future spouse—dressed in traditional attire and holding hands. This represents a sacred moment when a child is about to step into a new chapter of life: marriage.

The mother in this painting is not merely presented as a biological parent, but as a symbol of prayer, inner strength, and pure love. Through her softly flowing white hair, I aim to express her sincerity and resilience, shaped by time and countless trials. Although the mother figure is placed at the lower part of the composition, it is precisely from this position that all strength flows. She becomes the foundation—the source of blessings and prayers that rise upward, sheltering her children.

The figures above her represent the next generation, standing at a pivotal moment in their lives. They gaze at each other with hope, symbolizing a future being built together. Yet before taking that step forward, a mother’s blessing is something they must carry, so that their journey may be steady, open, and filled with grace.

The background of this painting is filled with colorful floral elements. These flowers are not merely decorative, but symbolize good prayers that bloom and spread throughout all aspects of life. I chose bright colors such as purple, yellow, pink, and green to create an atmosphere of hope, serenity, and happiness that accompanies a mother’s blessing.

I maintain my signature doodle art approach in this work—simple facial forms, gentle yet expressive expressions, and dynamic patterns. For me, cheerful visuals do not diminish depth of meaning. Instead, through soft and colorful imagery, I wish to convey that a mother’s love is not only expressed through advice or rules, but also through small acts of care, silent embraces, and prayers that never cease from childhood into adulthood.

I believe that a mother’s blessing is sacred and serves as a shield for her children. In our cultural traditions, a mother’s blessing plays an essential role in every stage of life—from education and work, to marriage and family life. I have felt this personally: how a mother’s presence and prayers can make me feel stronger and braver, even in moments of doubt.

Through this artwork, I wish to convey that a mother’s prayers are the greatest legacy. They are unseen, yet profoundly real. Unheard, yet deeply felt within the soul. May this painting serve as a reminder to anyone who encounters it that before making major life decisions, there is one thing that should never be forgotten: seeking a mother’s blessing.
